COOKIE INFORMATION
Cookies, kept simple.
deadsquirrel does not use advertising or analytics cookies. The small number of cookies used support actions that visitors or the editor specifically request.
What is used
ds_voter
Set only when you vote on a resource. It contains a random browser identifier so the site can remember and update that browser’s vote. It is HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax and lasts for up to 12 months.
__cf_bm
Set by the hosting security service to distinguish likely automated traffic and protect the site from abusive bots. Its contents are encrypted and it expires after about 30 minutes of inactivity.
Editor sign-in
The private review desk may use session and security cookies supplied by the sign-in service. They are used only to authenticate and protect the editor area.
Why there is no cookie banner
The site currently uses only cookies needed to provide a requested action or secure the private editor service. It does not set marketing, advertising or audience-measurement cookies. If that changes, deadsquirrel will update this page and add consent controls before non-essential cookies are used.
Your controls
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the voting cookie means the site may not remember your previous vote. Blocking authentication cookies will prevent access to the editor review desk.
Further guidance
The UK Information Commissioner explains the rules for cookies and similar technologies.
