PRIVACY NOTICE
A small amount of data, for clear reasons.
deadsquirrel is designed to collect as little personal information as practical while keeping community submissions, voting and the private review desk working safely.
Who is responsible
deadsquirrel operates this resource library. Until a separate privacy address is published, privacy questions can be sent to images@deadsquirrel.co.uk.
Information the site handles
- Resource suggestions: the URL, selected biscuit sections and the explanation you submit. The public form does not ask for your name or email address.
- Submission protection: a salted hash derived from the connection’s IP address and the submission date, used to enforce the five-links-per-day limit. The site does not intentionally store the raw IP address in the submissions database.
- Votes: an anonymous random browser identifier and the upvote or downvote attached to a resource.
- Editor access: the signed-in editor’s account identifier, email address and display name, used only to control the review desk.
- Technical records: ordinary security and service logs may be processed by the providers that host and protect the website.
How and why it is used
The information is used to review and publish suggested resources, operate voting, prevent spam and misuse, and secure editor access. The basis is deadsquirrel’s legitimate interest in running a useful, moderated community library and, where applicable, providing the action a visitor or editor has requested.
Sharing and publication
deadsquirrel does not sell personal information and does not use it for behavioural advertising. Relevant information is handled by the services that host, secure and authenticate the website. A submitted URL, its sections and an edited description may become public if the resource is approved; private editor notes are not published.
Retention
Submission rate-limit hashes are automatically cleared after they are no longer useful and may remain for up to 14 days. The anonymous voting cookie lasts for up to 12 months. Resource and moderation records remain until they are no longer needed or an editor removes them. Security records follow the hosting provider’s retention arrangements.
External links
Every resource opens the publisher’s own website in a new tab. That organisation then controls any information its site collects, under its own privacy and cookie notices.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase or restrict the use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Contact deadsquirrel at the address above. You may also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
